Phil, Danny and Jez...oh, and Barbel
!

Barbel and Chub We are very
lucky today to have some state-of-the-art rods available
for targeting Barbel and Chub.
I've
built and tried most, I have short-listed
the best below, and these are the rods I
would use.
After all, you come to a rod maker to get a great build,
so it only makes sence to build on the best blanks.
I
do however build the full range from Harrison, and FreeSpirit, so if you
have a model you want, just telephone me.

Maximum power Barbel
fishing. A great tool for the big work is
the fantastic fast-action Flood/Big River rod in 12'
( blank built by Harrison ).
This rod is to my specification. I put this rod together
utilising Chimera
lay-up technology with lobbing big feeders, method
balls, etc in mind, for use on big rivers like the
Thames, Severn and Trent. Even though I say so myself, I
got it bang on. If you need to lob out up to 8oz, then
this is the rod for you.
Despite the hugh lobbing capabilities of the Flood/Big
River rod, it still retains a wonderfull playing action
and great bite detection.
See Greg Whitehead's, of the Angling Times, testimony in
the Testimony page.
There are a full range of handle options available to be
built on this rod.

The Flood/Big River 12' starts at £265.00
This price includes the handle options, colour options, a
cloth rod bag, and any personal little bits, such as rod
numbering, monograms, etc.
The only extra to pay for on the rod is the upgrade ring
option if choose them. These prices are on the ring

All-round
Barbel fishing. The most popular Barbel rod today is
the medium-actioned Torrix 12' 1.75 TC and with good reason. It's
capable of lobbing good amounts of weight when needed,
while maintaining the fight well and truly on your side.
Before this model came out, I often felt undergunned,
when in full battle with an angry Barbel. But not
anymore. If you want a rod that will deal with any Barbel
that swims, here it is.

options available to be built on this rod.

All-round
Barbel fishing. If you like a more classic
through-actioned rod, then the Torrix 12' 1.50 TC is the one to go for. It's
built on the same mandrel as the 1.75 TC but uses a more
flexible carbon in the butt section. It looks exactly the
same but it's just more forgiving.
This rod is better suited for the
smaller rivers, such as the Kennet, Hampshire Avon, etc,
where most casts are underarm or small lobs and you can
let the rod really hoop over, if that's your thing.

Lightweight
Barbel and Chub fishing. Whenever I go Barbel fishing I
catch Chub, and when I go after Chub I get Barbel. I was
either very overgunned playing Chub on Barbel gear or
just hanging on when I hooked a Barbel on my Chub gear.
Something had to be done about this.
After much discussions with
Harrison, we put together the Torrix
12' 1.25 TC with multi-tip options.
This fast-actioned rod has a butt section that is a
little more powerful than the Torrix 12' 1.50 TC, so it
will deal with the Barbel when they come along, but it
has a choice of tips ideal for Chub work. This stronger
butt section comes in very handy when holding out a
cunning Chub when he tries to get in the snags beneath
your feet.
The Torrix 12' 1.25 TC rod can be ordered with 1, 2, or 3
tips. The first tip is the standard specialist - like a
normal rod. The second is a carbon tip to take push- in
carbon quiver tips. The third is a carbon and glass blend
tip to take push-in glass quiver tips. At last I have the
rod I'd always wanted, happily targeting as small a fish
as a good sized Roach one minute with a soft quiver and
the next boltrigging for Barbel. Nice!

Rolling
Meat.
The perfect rod for this is the Torrix 11' 1.75 TC. I know the test curve
appears high, but due to its fast action this rod has a
fantastic, light, super crisp feel that detects a bite
instantly and gives you the power to get stuck in. I was
amazed when I first got my hands on this rod and I call
it an X Factor rod. It just feels perfect. I can hold
this rod all day long, with no trouble and realy enjoy
the battle.

options available to be built on this rod.

Float
Fishing. Trotting a float for Chub is common
place, but less common for Barbel. Float fishing for
these guys can be very rewarding.
The
Torrix 12' 1.25 TC Specialist Float is a 2pc very light rod
considering its power, that is just great to have set up
in the quiver ready to go. Moving from swim to swim is so
easy with a 2pc. I use this rod with double strength line
from 0.18mm upwards and I use it to target Grayling
through to Barbel. Wonderful!
