Spod Rods

Hi-'S' Spod Rod
A good spod rod still needs plenty of action in the blank; especially the tip so can be easily compressed making them more accurate at short to medium range as well as long range. However the action and blank weight required for long distance will normally be different from that required for short to medium ranges as they will require more weight or casting effort to compress the blank properly – essential for accuracy. For this reason we have more than one spod rod in each range, the exception to this is the Hi-'S' Spod Rod where the use of ultra-high modulus 40t Low Resin Carbon makes the tip very responsive but retains a stiffness in the butt to middle section aiding compression and making this tool a true multi-distance spod rod.

'S' Range Spod Rods
Available in two actions of 4lb and 5lb the special carbon aids accuracy at all ranges and the low resin content means the action of the rod is preserved for much longer despite the continual overloading of the blank caused by large spods. Although both rods are suitable for short, medium and long ranges, Free Spirit recommend the 4lb for most people and this will cast all the standard size spods. They are also good for extreme ranges with the streamlined rocket type spods. The S.U. model is better suited to big spods like Free Spirits own Big Bed or if you continually want to fish at 100 yards plus.
