Carp

There are so many carp rods to choose from, it's mind numbing. The power, the stated test curves, varies from model to model depending on the rod's action and from which manufacturer. It can all be a bit too much at times.

I've built and tried most, I have short-listed the best below and these are the rods I would use and recommend.
After all, you come to a rod maker to get a great build, so it only makes sence that your rods are built on the best blanks.

I do however build the full range from Harrison, Century and FreeSpirit, so if you have a model you want, just telephone me.

Maximum distance Carp fishing. I would go for Harrison's flag ship, the fast action Trebuchet in either 12' or 13'.
When I first got my hands on these blanks, I was very happy to find that the Trebuchet was still a fishing rod; after all that's what were doing, fishing. The construction of the blanks is complex to say the least. I've never seen anything like it. What with the various taperings and combinations of materials, it is very sexy and very functional. The big-hitting, tackle tarts amounst us will love it.
For the handles on the Trebuchet, to show off its beautiful construction it would have to be: Naked DNPS with Jap and EVA, or, Naked DPS with Jap and EVA.
See the
Handle Options page for images of these options.
Ring Options ---- 40/30/25/20/16/16tip or 50/40/30/25/20/16tip.

The Trebuchet 12' starts at
£295.00
The Trebuchet 13' starts at
£315.00
This price includes the handle options, colour options, a cloth rod bag and any personal little bits, such as rod numbering, monograms, etc.
The only extra to pay for on the rod is the upgrade ring option if you choose them. These prices are on the ring option page.

Maximum distance Carp fishing. A great fishing rod, for the big work, would be Harrison's fantastic medium-action Torrix 3.50 TC in 12' or 13'.
This rod is the big brother of the very popular Torrix 12' 3.25 TC power all-rounder. If you want a rod to hit 4oz leads, big bags and method ball a good old distance, then the 3.50 TC is the one. This rod isn't as specialised as the Trebuchet and it would suit more people in the big hitting stakes, as it has an easy cast action. But remember, it is powerful, so you do need to be OK at casting to get the most out of it.
There are a full range of handle options available to be built on this rod.
See the Handle Options page.

Harrison's medium-action
Torrix 12' 3.25 TC sells hand-over-fist and with good reason. It is almost all things to all men, very easy to use and very capable. It is happy hitting a 3.5oz lead at high speed. I have never heard a bad word said about this model. It's that good and I whole heartedly recommend it.
Harrison's
Torrix 12' 6'' 3.35 TC TE ( Design input by Terry Edmonds) gives a little bit more power and length.

The medium-fast action Century
AK47 12'6'' 3.50 TC is the rod I currently use, for my power work. It is happy hitting a 4oz lead at high speed. These rods have a similar capability to the Torrix TE, but with a little more power in the butt section and a little less power in the tip - hence, medium-fast. This rod is very capable, but it does require a little more casting skill to get the most out of it.
The AK47 is autoclaved to stop test curve decay, to give years and years of use.
There are a full range of handle options available to be built on this rod.

The AK47 12'6'' 3.50 TC starts at
£220.00, which is great value, as I buy the blanks in batches and Century kindly gives me a very good price.

The only extra to pay for on the rod is the upgrade ring option if you choose them. These prices are on the ring option page.

Harrison's medium-action
Torrix 12' 2.00 TC uses the fantastic, specialist blank. It is capable of dealing with double figure Barbel with ease, but it is built in a carp rod style. Wonderful!.
It is happy hitting a 1.5oz lead at high speed, or lobbing PVA bags to close ranges.

Spoding. If you want a Torrix carp rod then I would choose the 12' Torrix Spod rod. This rod is about 4.50 TC and is designed to hit spods the same distances that the 3.50 TC Carp rod can hit a baited rig.
There are a full range of handle options available to be built on these rods.

Marker and feature finding. I was dissatisfied with the so-called Marker rods that were available, so I got Harrison to make me one, to my specifications. It is simple called Marker. This rod is the ideal 12' Marker rod, as far as I am concerned.
This rod has good flex and ample power to put your marker float wherever you want it and with little effort. The tip has been stiffened and blended to maximise the transverse vibration wave from the feature finding lead, up the braid, down the rod, and into your hand. That is what Marker rods should be all about, finding what's out there.
